Successfully finding work in the industry has got to be the ultimate goal for those taking part in NETA Training’s Scaffolding Academy.

Working alongside employers, the short course delivers an introduction to the trade while also offering the chance to pick up those essential cards to get on site.

It certainly proved a winning formula for Dean, who after completing the programme, has gone on to secure a job as a trainee scaffolding labourer with r.Bau Limited.

“Scaffolding has been something that I have wanted to get into since I was 18,” said the 29-year-old from Thornaby. “But I never knew how to get into it properly.”

When he heard about the academy it sounded the ideal first step on the career ladder.

Having previously worked in warehousing and retail, he said neither had left him feeling fulfilled.  Also working in groundwork, he said: “That was something I enjoyed.” But scaffolding remained his ambition.

“I am someone that likes to be busy all the time,” said Dean. “And I have always known I’m not scared of heights.”

Embarking on the 13-day NETA course, which was delivered alongside JMAC Scaffolding, he said: “I was excited to finally be doing something that I was really interested in and wanted to learn.”

The academy covers essential employability skills, health and safety, as well as the practical elements of scaffolding application.

Dean said: “I loved it and have always known that this was something I wanted to do.”

Snapped up by r.Bau shortly after, he said: “The academy was a step in the door.  It gave me an insight into the industry and gave me the cards I needed to be on site.”
